Street Life

Provincial Town in Southern North Korea. Representative for other urban areas in that it looks more developed than you would expect for a Country which saw 10-20% of its population starve to death in the late 1990s. Yet, most of the concrete structures (built with Soviet Aid) are in a state of decay, as North Korea is obviously struggling to keep up with any maintenance work that extends beyond surface painting.

Notice that 2 out of 10 people are wearing a uniform, and transport is mostly by (communal) bicycle or on foot.
